Bishop Matthias Ri Iong-hoon was born on Sept. 13, 1951, in Hwaseong-si in Gyeonggi-do Province. He was ordained a priest on March 6, 1979, and appointed as auxiliary bishop of Suwon on Mar. 7, 2003. His episcopal ordination was on May 14, 2003. He was promoted to coadjutor on Oct. 10, 2008, and became the Bishop of Suwon diocese on Mar. 30, 2009. Bishop Ri is president of the Committee on Education of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea (CBCK) and a member of the Conference’s Episcopal Commission for Social Affairs.
