Bishop Emeritus Théophane Matthew Thannickunnel, O. Praem. was born on Sept. 23, 1928 in Plassanal (Kerala state). He was ordained a priest of Order of the Canons Regular of Premontre (Norbertines) on Aug. 15, 1959. On March 1, 1976 Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Jabalpur. He was ordained bishop on March 31, 1977. He retired on May 16, 2001.
