who is said to have reached the Malabar Coast of Kerala in 52 AD.

Bishop Peter Remigius was born on May 20, 1939 in Melmanakudi in Kottar diocese. He was ordained a priest on April 18, 1966. He was appointed bishop on Nov. 10, 1989 and was ordained and installed as Bishop of Kumbakonam on Jan. 3, 1990 and on June 30, 2007 was transferred to his native Kottar diocese.

He is also the chairman of the Laity Commission of the Tamil Nadu Bishops' Council. Bishop Remigius is also chairman of the Prison Ministry of India. He retired on May 20, 2017.
