Bishop John Vadakel, CMI was born on Aug. 17, 1943, in Beslehem parish, Kerala state, in the Diocese of Kothamangalam. He made his first vows in the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) congregation on May 16, 1964. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Bijnor on Aug. 14, 2009. He was ordained and installed the second Bishop of Bijnor on Oct. 22, 2009.

On 30 Aug 2019 Bishop John retired.
