Bishop Francis Kalist was born on Nov 23, 1957, in Ritapuram parish of Kottar diocese in southern Tamil Nadu state. He was ordained priest for Meerut diocese on Dec 30, 1982. He was appointed bishop on Dec 3, 2008, and was ordained on Feb. 8, 2009. Prior to his appointment as bishop, he served as the rector of the Regional Philosophate, St. Francis Xavier's Major Seminary at Etmadpur, Agra archdiocese.

On 19 March, 2022, Pope Francis has appointed Most Rev. Francis Kalist, Bishop of Meerut as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of Pondicherry-Cuddalore in Tamilnadu.
