Archbishop Bernard Moras was born on Aug. 10,1941, in Kuppepadav, Mangalore diocese, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. He was ordained a priest on Dec. 6, 1967. Initially appointed Bishop of Belgaum, his episcopal oridation took place on Feb. 25, 1997, Bishop Moras was appointed Archbishop of Bangalore in July 2004 and installed on Sept. 17 that year. He also serves as Chairman of the Health Commission of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), Chairman of the Governing Board of St. John's Medical College and Hospital, Ecclesiastical Advisor to the Catholic Health Association of India, President of the Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishop's Council and Chairman of the Karnataka Regional Pastoral Plan, as well as being a member of the Governing Board of many charitable institutions. Archbishop Moras is a member of the CBCI Standing Committee.
