Archbishop Benedict John Osta


Archbishop Benedict John Osta was born on 15.August 1931. He was ordained Priest on 9.June 1963, and ordained Bishop on 21 June1980 and was appointed Bishop of Patna. Later in 1999, Pope John Paul II elevated the Diocese of Patna till then a suffragan Diocese of the Archdiocese of Ranchi, into an Archdiocese and Bishop Benedict John Osta was appointed as its first Archbishop.

Archbishop Osta continued in office until his resignation was accepted by the Holy Father and the new Archbishop William D’Souza was appointed as Archbishop of Patna Archdiocese on December 9, 2006. Archbishop Benedict Osta carried out successfully his Episcopal ministry for more than 25 years, with dedication and zeal.

Archbishop Benedict John Osta, the Archbishop Emeritus of Patna, passed away January 30, 2014. He was 82.
