Bishop Clement Tirkey was born on Sept. 12, 1947, in Jokbahla parish in Jashpur diocese in Chhattisgarh state. He was ordained priest on March 21, 1978, and was appointed bishop of Jalpaiguri on Jan. 31, 2006. His episcopal ordination was on April 23, 2006. Before his present post he was vicar general and social service director of the neighboring Bagdogra diocese in West Bengal state.
