Rev. Benedictus Son Hee-Song was appointed as the auxiliary bishop of Seoul archdiocese on July 14, 2015.

Bishop Son Hee-Song, was born on Jan. 28, 1957, in Kyenki Yeonchenun Chadari, then in the archdiocese of Seoul and now the diocese of Uijeongbu.

He studied at the Major Seminary of Seoul and was ordained priest on July 4, 1986, for the archdiocese of Seoul. Soon after ordination he left for Innsbruck in Austria, from where he earned a doctorate in theology in 1992.

On returning he served as parish priest at Yongsan and later as professor at the Major Seminary of Seoul and director of the seminary library, head of the Department for Information Technology.

He played important roles in the South Korean bishops' conference serving its various commissions and directing several pastoral departments.

In 2014 when Pope Francis visited South Korea, he headed the Committee for Planning and Coordination for the papal visit.

He served the bishop's Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith for seven years as its secretary general and also representative and member of the Episcopal Commission for the Causes of Beatification and Canonization.

Since 2012, he was also secretary general of the Episcopal Commission for the Lay Apostolate.
