Bishop Joseph Karikkassery was born on Feb. 13, 1946, in Karthedom. He was ordained priest in Dec. 19, 1973. In 2006, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Verapoly and was ordained titular bishop of Buxentum on Dec. 28, 2006.

He was appointed bishop of Kottapuram on Dec. 18, 2010, and on Feb. 13, 2011 he was installed as bishop of Kottapuram.
