Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal M.C.B.S. was born on March 28, 1950, in Palai diocese in Kerala state. He was ordained priest of Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament on Dec. 22, 1975. He was appointed as the second bishop of Kalyan on Nov. 11, 1996, by Pope John Paul II and was ordained on Feb. 8, 1997. He is the chairman of health commission in Western Regions Bishops’ Conference and a member of Syro-Malabar synodal commission for liturgy.
