Bishop Dorairaj was born in Chennai in June 1954. He was ordained priest in 1981 and was appointed auxiliary bishop of Madras and Mylapore in November 1998. Bishop Lawrence succeeds Bishop Joseph Antony Irudayaraj SDB as bishop of Dharmapuri.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bishop Dorairaj as the new bishop of Dharmapuri on Jan. 13, 2012.
