Pope Francis appointed Father Antonis Bara as Bishop of Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh on Dec 22, 2021.

Bishop Bara was born on Feb. 26, 1958, at Shobha (Bahora) in the diocese of Jashpur, Chhattisgarh. In 1977, he joined Minor Seminary in Ambikapur and later did his theological studies in Rome, at the Propaganda Fide College.

He was ordained priest on May 13, 1988. From 1988 to 1998, Bishop Bara served as parish priest in three different parishes of the diocese of Ambikapur.
From 1998 to 2005 he was the vicar general of the Diocese of Ambikapur in charge of the formation of seminarians.

From 2005 to 2012, he did his studies in Pastoral Theology in Padova, at the Facoltà del Triveneto. Since 2017, he has been vicar general of the Diocese of Ambikapur also incharge of the formation of seminarians.

Bishop Bara was ordained bishop of Ambikapur on Feb 22, 2022.
