It is believed that Christianity was introduced to India by Thomas the Apostle,
who is said to have reached the Malabar Coast of Kerala in 52 AD.

Archbishop Dominic Lumon was born on June 1, 1948, in Mongsang Pangtha in Imphal archdiocese. He was ordained priest on Feb. 8, 1977 in the diocese of Kohima. On Jan. 18, 2002, he was appointed and on April 7, 2002 he was ordained as the coadjutor archbishop of Imphal. On July 12, 2006 he succeeded as the archbishop of Imphal.

Before becoming a prelate, Archbishop Lumon was the vicar general of Imphal archdiocese. He is presently the Chairman of Family Commission in North Eastern Regional Bishops’ Council.
